I copied this van Gogh painting of irises in order to get a sense of the use of his color palette and brush work. Van Gogh called this work a color study, essentially the harmonizing of the yellows and the violets… At least when he painted them the irises had more of a violet tone. The red pigment used to create the main color for the irises has faded away and has left just the blues. I too, used a color of red in my violet mixture that is known to be somewhat 'fugitive' so I can also observe the colors fading over its lifetime. I started this in 2024 just before my open studio in 2024 so it's only fitting that I put it up for sale now April of 2025 as my next open studio occurs the first weekend in May.
